Goodwin Reads Issue #3
The Guest List, The Night Swim, and Write Better, Right Now.
Hey there, book buddy!
To all those who celebrate it—Happy Thanksgiving!
I apologize for getting this week’s newsletter being late.
I wanted to let you know how my reading week has been, and I want to hear about your reading week.
I’m so happy with my reading week, as I read three books: The Guest List, The Night Swim, and Write Better, Right Now. All three of these books were four stars.
I’m currently on a binge to finish my Goodreads goal of 52 books. I’m at 37. I should be at 38 by the end of the night. With only one month to go, I’m not sure I will be able to complete my goal, but it’s worth a shot.
I am currently reading The Silent Patient. It is shaping up to be another winner. I can’t believe how great my reads have been.
Book Reviews
The Guest List
The Guest List was a great read. It follows a wedding party on a deserted island. The book is character-driven. We learn the backstory for each of the five POV characters.
After the wedding, someone ends up dead. We are not sure exactly who, but I’m sure you can guess. Now we start to discover more about each of the five. We begin to learn that each has both motive and opportunity.
Whodunnit? That’s a great question. Read The Guest List to find out.
I enjoyed this book. I give it four to five stars. It’s outstanding.
The Night Swim
The Night Swim is about Rachel, a popular true-crime podcaster, covering a rape trial in a small town. The town is divided and has a sordid past.
On the way to cover the trial is dividing the town of Neopolis, Rachel receives a mysterious letter on her car’s windshield. It’s from a woman named Hannah, who wants Rachel’s help in solving her sister’s murder, which happened decades earlier.
The Night Swim is a great thriller. I enjoyed the ride very much. I did know who the killer was right away, probably in the first 50 pages or so, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment.
I rated it four stars.
Write Better, Right Now
I won’t spend too much time on Write Better, Right Now. It is about writing nonfiction, mainly article-type writing. It had some excellent tips and exercises. If you are at all interested in writing, this book is worth the read. I found it at Barnes and Noble in the clearance section.
